Concept2 SkiErg PM5 monitor
The Concept2 SkiErg with the PM5 console is a versatile and essential addition to any commercial gym, studio, or home workout space. Originally designed to train cross-country skiers, this machine has been embraced by the fitness community for its ability to deliver an effective and engaging full-body workout. It features the same reliable air-resistance flywheel and electronic monitoring system as the acclaimed Concept2 Indoor Rower, ensuring smooth, responsive performance and consistent, comparable data.
The heart of the machine is the PM5 Performance Monitor, a sophisticated yet user-friendly console that provides immediate, accurate feedback on every workout. Users can track essential metrics like time, distance, pace, watts, and calories, and the monitor’s Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless connectivity allows for heart rate monitoring and connection to a variety of fitness apps. This data-driven approach allows athletes and fitness enthusiasts to precisely track their progress, set goals, and participate in challenges.
The SkiErg’s motion engages every major muscle group in the body. The primary muscles worked are the latissimus dorsi (lats) and pectoralis major in the upper body, providing the powerful pulling action. The abdominal muscles, obliques, and lower back are heavily engaged for core stability and power transfer. In the lower body, the glutes and hamstrings are activated as you hinge at the hips during each stroke, while the triceps and shoulders drive the handles down. This combination of upper-body strength and cardiovascular endurance makes the SkiErg a superior tool for building overall fitness. It is a fantastic option for athletes of all levels and can even be used from a seated position, making it an excellent low-impact choice for those with lower-body injuries.
Originally designed as a training tool for cross country skiers, the Concept2 SkiErg® has been embraced by the fitness community for its ability to work legs, core and arms in a smooth, continuous motion. Great for all athletes at all levels—you don’t have to be a skier to reap the benefits of the SkiErg’s total body exercise. With the same flywheel and Performance Monitor as our RowErgs and the BikeErg, the SkiErg offers a quality workout that will build your strength and endurance.
Our SkiErg is easily adapted to those with lower body limitations or injuries and will deliver complete cardiovascular training, working your core and upper body from a seated position, whether from a stool, chair or wheelchair.
Tough and built to last, our machines withstand rigorous use in gyms and homes around the world. And like the RowErg and BikeErg, we make sure our SkiErg is easy to care for so you can focus on using it, not maintaining it.
Whether you’re an elite cross-country skier looking to improve your power, or someone looking for a great workout, the SkiErg will help you achieve your goals.
Performance Monitor

The Performance Monitor is what sets the Concept2 SkiErg apart from other cross-country training devices: packed with features yet easy to use, it allows you to accurately assess your output, monitor your progress, and compare your scores with others. Each SkiErg comes with our most advanced Performance Monitor, the PM5.
Get Connected

The PM5 monitor has both Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless connectivity, allowing it to connect to many heart rate belts, fitness devices and apps. Our free Concept2 ErgData app helps you track your workouts and can sync with the Concept2 Online Logbook. Third party apps can provide additional features to help keep you motivated.
Versatile Storage

The SkiErg can be either mounted on a wall or used with a floor stand. Wall mounting provides the most compact option, while the floor stand, with its anti-skid deck and caster wheels, provides an all-in-one solution that makes the SkiErg mobile. Either way, the SkiErg is easy to assemble, and we provide all the tools you’ll need to do the job.
Flywheel And Damper

The SkiErg responds to your effort on every pull, so you are in full control of your exertion and resistance at all times. The spiral damper allows you to quickly adjust the airflow to the flywheel, so you can change the feel of the pull to suit your preference. Whether you want your workout to feel like you’re on flat terrain or an uphill climb, the SkiErg will respond to your needs.
Ergonomic Strapless Handles

The SkiErg’s ergonomic, strapless handles provide for a comfortable, secure grip and won’t absorb sweat so they stay dry in high use settings. They are also suitable for all hand sizes as they require no adjustment.
How to Use the Concept2 SkiErg
The Concept 2 SkiErg makes the sport of Nordic skiing available to everyone. It builds strength and endurance by working the entire body with the poling motion integral to all techniques of Nordic skiing.
The SkiErg uses the same flywheel resistance and electronic monitoring systems as the Concept 2 indoor rowers and it is made to last. As well as being durable and well built, the SkiErg is sophisticated and this spec comes with the new PM5 monitor which provides immediate, accurate performance data.
The new PM5 is easy to use, supports ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart for wireless heart rate monitoring, is USB flash drive compatible, and features games.
Key features include that it can be wall mounted or free standing with a stand (the stand is sold separately), a high strength drive cord (made of Dyneema®), adjustable hand straps, a flywheel and damper (which responds to your effort) and it is very compact.
The Concept 2 SkiErg is a relatively new piece of equipment in the fitness community and is not a very common piece of equipment you will find in many gyms. This may be in part due to the price of the rig, but I believe there is also an aspect of some people just don’t know about the Concept 2 SkiErg.
Just about everyone recognizes the Concept 2 Rower that has been utilized in fitness community for years, but when it comes to a SkiErg, the knowledge is not as deep.
Concept 2 SkiErg is not just designed for anyone to improve their fitness. When looking through their website you can tell their target audience is skiers in the off-season looking to not lose their form.
For those looking at the Concept 2 SkiErg from a skiing perspective, the Concept 2 SkiErg makes the sport of Nordic skiing available for everyone. For those not familiar, Nordic Skiing is one of the most grueling workouts a person can go through.
Nordic skiing develops both strength and endurance. The exercise focuses on lower body as well as the arms and core. While pulling the SkiErg, a person can focus on a double, or alternating pull method.
But for those looking to just increase their fitness or to train for CrossFit competitions, the Concept 2 SkiErg should not go overlooked.
The Concept 2 SkiErg has come a long way from its first generation release in 2009. The original design became discontinued in 2014. The machine offered both options of being free-standing and wall mounted, one upgrade are the handles that are now used on the present-day SkiErg.
Concept 2 has made the present day SkiErg with strapless handles that provide for a comfortable, secure grip. The great thing about these grips is the texture won’t absorb sweat, what this reverts to is a constantly dry handle while you are pulling, when you yourself are not dry.
The handles form-fitting to every hand and do not have a strap to wrap around your wrist like the original. This saves time and makes the machine very accessible.
Concept 2 has rounded out the present day SkiErg handles by making them Lime Green so they are easy to spot, grab, and pull.
One of the great things about Concept 2 is their flywheel and electric monitor system that the company uses across the board on almost all of their machines. The monitor system, PM5, is a very durable and well-built monitor. Each SkiErg is attached with the PM5. the SkiErg is ahead of the game too, with an advanced monitor that provides immediate, accurate performance data.
This Performance Monitor is what sets the Concept 2 SkiErg apart from other pieces of equipment and training devices like an Assault Bike. The PM5 does not let a person cheat by properly keeping track of effort, it keeps track of your progress, and it even allows you to compare your scores with others.
A great feature of the PM5 monitor is that it has both Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless connectivity. This allows you to connect to a number of different heart rate belts, fitness devices and apps. Concept 2 has also created a free app that keeps track of your workouts and even goes the next step of synching with the Concept 2 Online Logbook.
While working out, the PM5 provides distance, speed, pace, Calories, and watts for each time you pull. The PM5 also allows a person to choose between five display options: all data, force curve, bar chart, large print or having a paceboat/pacer.
The monitor itself is backlit which allows easy readability. The screen turns on automatically when a person starts pulling or when you press any of the button, and it does not turn off until quite some time after your last pull.
Tough and built to last, the Concept 2 SkiErg can withstand rigorous use in Nordic ski centers, living rooms, garage gyms and military bases around the world. The machine is easy to care for so you can focus on using the investment, and not maintaining it
